CBD Q&A
May 4th 2023
Maybe you are interested in CBD or already using it and have questions about this popular natural supplement. CBD is short for cannabidiol, a compound derived from the hemp plant that has gained significant attention for its potential health benefits. With so much information and misinformation available we hope the following questions and answers will help you learn more about CBD and its potential health benefits.
What is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the many powerful cannabinoids, chemical compounds, found in the hemp plant. It is known for supporting the body and mind in various ways.
Can CBD get you high?
No. CBD does not produce intoxicating effects because it is a non-psychoactive compound. THC is the cannabinoid that gets you “high”. The level of THC is what determines the plants classification as marijuana or hemp. In fact, CBD is often used to counteract the psychoactive effects of THC and to promote a more relaxed and calm state of mind.
Does CBD show up on a drug test?
No. Drug screenings do not test for CBD metabolites. They test for THC which can be found in minute quantities in full spectrum CBD gummies, tinctures, and other CBD products. At TWINE we offer CBD isolate products, which contain 99%+ pure CBD with no other compounds from the hemp plant. CBD isolate is a purified form of cannabidiol (CBD) from which all other compounds of the hemp plant are removed, including delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the cannabinoid responsible for the mind altering “high” feeling often associated with cannabis use. CBD isolate is the safest form of CBD to take if you are concerned about drug testing. Learn more about CBD Isolate.
What does CBD do?
A survey by SingleCare shows the top reasons people use CBD are for pain, anxiety and stress, sleep and insomnia, arthritis, depression, migraines and headaches, and even for their pets. Our customers also report many of these reasons for using CBD and leave reviews about the benefits they are having.
How does CBD work?
CBD works with the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is a complex network of receptors, enzymes, and molecules that help regulate various physiological and cognitive processes, including pain sensation, mood, appetite, and immune function. Our bodies make our own cannabinoids which attach to receptors within our ECS to keep things in balance. When imbalance occurs, phytocannabinoids, cannabinoids from a variety of plants including hemp, act to replenish and restore balance. Learn more.
Is CBD legal?
CBD is a compound found in Cannabis sativa a plant species with different varieties. The level of THC determines if the plant is classified as marijuana or hemp. Hemp plants are very high in CBD and low in THC. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized the hemp plant if it contains less than 0.3% THC by dry weight. Therefore, CBD products derived from hemp are legal in the United States.
How do you use CBD?
CBD can be used in various ways and many CBD products are available. The most common methods are edibles like CBD gummies, sublingually or placing CBD oil drops under your tongue, topically by using CBD creams, body butters, lotions and balms, and inhalation through vaporization or smoking.
How long does it take to feel the effect of CBD?
Consistency is key. Taking CBD consistently is important if you are looking for long-term benefits. Some people report noticing benefits right away like sleeping better or feeling relief from discomforts, but it can take up to 4 to 6 weeks to notice dramatic results. It is suggested to start low and add more until you find the results you are looking for. CBD gummies and oils work from the inside out like taking medication while topicals can provide fast relief right at the source of trouble. People tend to notice the benefits of CBD the most when they run out or stop taking CBD because they notice their problems bothering them again or more often.
Can CBD be used for pets?
Yes. Pets have the same endocannabinoid system that people do and can benefit from CBD in the same ways. CBD can help pets that struggle with stress from separation, fear of thunderstorms or fireworks, traveling, visits to the vet and groomer, or even meeting new people. It can also help pets that struggle with discomforts from aging and being overweight and problems like hip ablation.
CBD is still being researched for its potential health benefits without intoxicating side effects. There is still much to learn about the natural supplement and how it interacts with our bodies. CBD has been used for centuries for medical purposes with documented reports of treating various health conditions such as gout, rheumatism, malaria, earaches, inflammation, swelling and even menstrual cramps. It was listed in the US Pharmacopeia in 1850 as a treatment for pain, nausea, and insomnia. CBD continues to hold promise as a potential useful tool in modern medicine and an all-natural alternative to medication.
